Every year in late winter, the Northwest Michigan Food and Farming Network puts on a single-day summit. This event is always well attended and is the birth place of many of the ideas that you see helping to energize the local food community in northwest Michigan.
This year, we’re doing it a bit differently. We’re aligning this event with the Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference, an annual gathering of the ag community. This year for the first time the Small Farm Conference will be taking place at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, MI. It’s an all day event on Saturday February 1, 2014.
Our Food & Farming Summit will be on Friday January 31 to allow SFC attendees to take part in our event too. It’s free, with optional dinner served by Roaming Harvest Food Truck.
Register here we need to know how many people will be there.
Here’s the schedule.
Here’s the text from the FFN Email Newsletter sent out last week.
2014 Summit and Small Farm Conference
Annual Food & Farming Network Summit – Friday January 31, 2014:
Our annual conference this year is a bit different than in the past. We’re attaching it to the front end of the Small Farm Conference weekend so we can include many of you who come each year for that event. This year the summit will take place at the Inside-Out Gallery in Traverse City’s warehouse district starting at 3:00 PM. We’ll feature our popular rapid-fire network reports, with a special presentation by TLD founder and advisor Patty Cantrell. The meeting will be followed with a local food meal served by Roaming Harvest food truck at 5:30 PM. Finally the evening will end with a showing of FRESH, a film about small farms at 6:30 PM. So choose to come for just one, or all of the activities. For more information please contact Bill Palladino at MLUI. 231.941-6584 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit http://www.foodandfarmingnetwork.org/summit2014
The Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference – Saturday February 1, 2014:
The Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference is moving to a bigger barn! Due to the tremendous popularity of this gathering of small farmers and growers, food enthusiasts, homesteaders and engaged eaters, the 2014 conference will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan, just north of Traverse City. Go now to their website for updated information and to register. http://smallfarmconference.com/
Food & Farming Summit Action Brunch – Sunday February 2, 2014:
Following on the heels of the Small Farm Conference, we’ll be hosting an action brunch for those who got fired up from the past two days of events and want to commit to doing something in the coming year. Come back to the Inside-Out Gallery on Sunday at 10 AM for an informal session on how to take action on the issues discussed at the FFN Summit and the Small Farm Conference. A light brunch will be served. For more information please contact Bill Palladino at MLUI. 231.941-6584 or email@example.com, or visit http://foodandfarmingnetwork.org/
That’s it for now. There’s a lot more exciting news coming your way soon. We just wanted to put these things on your calendar right away. And don’t miss the new TLD Local Food Companion blog. It’s our new tool for telling consumers about the great local food choices available in northern Michigan.
All the best in the New Year!
